~Brother Bob~

How does one describe a great man
Do we speak of riches, prestige, strength,
wisdom, power or any such thing?
Absolutely not! In my estimation these
many things do not make a person great.

I believe someones closeness to God
declares their greatness!
Brother Luther Henson was such a man!
He was the best natural friend I ever had.He was not wealthy.
Nor did he possess the great wisdom of man.

But, he had a Spirit that is found in very few people.
He not only talked about Holiness, He lived a Holy life!
He was always the same whether he was on the creek bank,
At church, in your home, or at a shopping mall!
He wasn't my father, though I would have been privileged had it been so!

However, he treated me like one of his boys.
When I was down he encouraged me.
If he saw me slipping he extended me a helping hand!
No, he wasn't a great man in the eyes of the world.
But, since he walked through my life I've never been the same.

My friend died unexpectedly on May 19, 1992.
When I heard of his death I felt like I had to do something.
With God's help I took pen and paper and wrote my first poem.
It is entitled Memories Of A Friend!
Since then God has inspired me to write over 700 poems!

It seems that Brother Luther's death triggered
something inside me that only God knew was there!
So, finally I want to dedicate this website,
To the memory of my dear departed friend,
And Brother in Christ, Luther (Brother Red) Henson.

MEMORIES OF A FRIEND

My life has been touched by a precious man,
Who had snowy white hair and callused hands.
His name was Luther. We called him Brother Red.
I'll never forget some of the things he said!

Plain and simple was the way he dressed.
Plain and simple gospel was what he loved best!
He'd talk about fishing and hunting and such.
But, when you mentioned Jesus,
those things didn't matter much!

This way is close; he'd say with that look in his eyes,
A whole lot closer than we may realize!
We can make it Brother, to me he would say,
When storms were brewing; and my skies were gray .

One day at a time" was his favorite phrase,
As he lifted Holy hands to Heaven with praise!
"It's good on the creek bank," he would shout,
As he kicked up his leg and danced about!

I feel so clean, he would exclaim,
As he praised the Lord and blessed God's name!
He loved Sister Effie! It was plain to see!
He'd say, I'm certain the Lord gave her to me!

He loved his family! They were his pride and joy!
He would say quite often, Pray for my boys.
When church was over and we parted each time,
I'd hug his neck and he'd hug mine!

Father, bless us as we part, we'd always say!
So be it dear Jesus til Resurrection Day!
Don't weep for me, I know he would say!
We'll meet again on that glad day!

As pilgrims and strangers we travel below!
Friends may come and friends may go!
A true blue friend is hard to find.
I believe Brother Red was one of a kind!

I thank God for the influence my precious mother has had on my life.
She gave her heart to God when I was just a small boy many years ago.
I never saw her smoke a cigarette or heard her swear.
Life wasn’t easy being a tenant farmer’s wife. But, she relied on God!
When her children were sick she would ask God to heal them
. We didn’t have the finer things in life.
However, there was never a question in my mind that my mother loved me.
Since we live many miles apart,
I don’t get to see her very often.
However, my love for her has never diminished.

A PATTERN FOR ME

The blessed truth,

I learned in my youth,

Sustains me yet today!

For I was taught,

I must be blood-bought,

And walk the Straight and Narrow Way!

My precious mother,

More than any other,

Was a positive influence on me.

In a world of sin and strife,

Her Godly life,

Was plain for all to see!

She was always there,

With intercessory prayer,

When she knew I was in need!

When my faith grew weak,

The Holy Ghost would speak,

With a message I must heed!

Many years have gone by,

But I still rely,

On the prayers she prays for me!

Her desire still today,

Is that in every way,

I’ll be the man God wants me to be!

I MET THE MAN OF GALILEE!

Dear friend I prayed for you today,
And I asked the Lord above,
To touch you in a special way,
While showing you His love!

You see, I know the road you're traveling well,
For I walked there before.
I felt the pain
And though the memories remain,
It doesn't hurt any more!

I met the "Man of Galilee,"
Jesus is His name!
And since He saved and set me free,
I've never been the same!

I now walk The Straight and Narrow Way,
That leads to Heaven above!
Jesus is my Friend and Guide!
And I'm sheltered by His love!

Many people travel the broad way,
That leads to hell below.
They've never known one moment of peace
As they travel to and fro.
Old satan is their master
A cruel one is he.
Oh God, please help them find their way,
To the Man of Galilee.

JUST LEAN ON ME

In the dark and stormy night,

Jesus is my Guiding Light!

He whispers, ”Everything’s alright”

“Just lean on me!”

And whether skies are blue or gray,

He’ll go with me all the way!

Oh, how I love to hear Him say,

“Child, just lean on me.”

“Lean on Me,”

“When the whole world turns against you.”

“You can lean on me,”

“When your friends all walk away.”

“You are mine.”

“You’re not your own.”

“So, you don’t have to walk alone,”

“Yes, until we stand before God’s throne,”

“You can lean on me!”

Sometimes when I’m on the mountain high,

It seems like I can touch the sky,

For I feel my Lord draw nigh,

So I can lean on Him!

Even when I’m in the valley low,

And I don’t know which way to go,

This one thing I surely know,

I can lean on Him!
