Geography

For early elementry students, first learn the names of the continents and the oceans in the world.  (If using the Robinson Curriculum this can easily be done while reading a book that talks about oceans or sailing like: "Christopher Columbus and The Discovery of The New World".)  Print out a map of the world for your child to color as you are doing this.  Have them color code the map with each continent being a different color.   Here are links to maps that you can print out for coloring purposes.

Here is a link to Geography games that can be done on the internet.   Where is That?

Next start learning about the major countries in each continent.  Here is a sample list.  You can add, subtract or replace countries according to the needs of your family.  If you are energetic you can even make an ethnic meal from each country while you are studying about it.  (If using the Robinson Curriculum, you can easily learn about countries as you come across them in the reading list -- or you can choose a book from the library so to learn about a specific country.  Have your child read about the country, and then they can write about what they learned.  See the templates for Geography reports at the bottom of this page for ideas.)
North America
Once you have completed this process, go on to United States Geography.  You can do this as you study US history.

Once you have completed this process, you can go back to World Geography and study all the countries in the world in more detail.  Take a year and study the US states in more detail also.
