Galatians 1:10
"For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men?
for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ."

Since pleasing God should be the first purpose of your life, your most important task is to discover how to do that.  When we are pleased with the actions of another, it makes us smile.  We need to discover what makes God smile.

  • God smiles when we love Him.
What does God want from us ... a relationship?  our sacrifices?  our offerings?
No, He wants our love.  He wants us to know Him and to spend time with Him developing a true relationship of love.

    Matthew 22:37
"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with
all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind."

  • God smiles when we trust Him completely.
God wants us to trust Him even when it doesn't make sense to us.  Trusting God completely means having faith that He knows what is best for our lives.

    Psalm 16:1
"Preserve me, O God:  for in thee do I put my trust."

  • God smiles when we obey Him wholeheartedly.
We please God by what we do, not by what we say we believe.  Sometimes we want to pick and choose the commands to obey, the ones we agree with or the easy ones we like, but God wants us to obey unconditionally.

    Jeremiah 7:23
"But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God,
and ye shall be my people:  and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you,
that it may be well unto you."

  • God smiles when we praise and thank Him.
Few things feel better to us than a round of sincere applause and congratulations, or when someone honestly thanks us for something we have done for them. God loves it too.

    Hebrews 13:15
"By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually,
that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name."

  • God smiles when we use our talents and abilities to glorify Him.
When you watch your children display their talents, whether they be academic, athletic, or performance, doesn't it feel great? God feels the same about us.

    Psalm 37:23
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD:
and he delighteth in his way

What can YOU do to make God smile today?
