New Jerusalem Faith Statement
I
believe that there is one God made up of the Father and the
Son and the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1; Matthew 28:18-20)
I
believe that the Scripture is the one and only true authority
for man and the church. Both the Old and New Testaments are
given to us that we may understand God, His kingdom, and His
plan of salvation for all men. This will serve as the only rule
of faith and practice. (Hebrews 4:12; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter
1:21).
I
believe that man is born sinless but with a desire to sin (Galatians
5:16-21) and that "All have sinned and fallen short of God's
glory (Romans 3:23)." This sin destroys our relationship to
God. Those who refuse to have this relationship with God reconciled
will be judged and punished for eternity (Mark 16:16).
I
believe that Christ alone died for the sins of the world that
man might be restored in a saving relationship with God and
that God wants all people to be saved (1 Peter 3:18; 2 Peter
3:8-9).
I
believe in the literal bodily resurrection of Jesus from the
grave (1 Corinthians 15).
I
believe that salvation and forgiveness of sins is offered to
anyone who submits to Christ through faith in Him as the Son
of God (Acts 16:31); repentance of sins (Luke 17:3); acknowledgment
of Christ as their Savior before men (Matthew 10:32-33); baptism
by immersion for forgiveness of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38;
1 Peter 3:21); and remaining faithful by living a life worthy
of their calling to be a disciple of Jesus (Ephesians 4:1).
I
believe that the Holy Spirit in-dwells in every person who becomes
a Christian. This Spirit enters a person at the time of Baptism
(Acts 2:38).
I
believe in and look forward to the literal return of Christ
to earth. In this return, the dead in Christ will be raised
and then living Christians will meet Him in the air. This is
to be the time of His judgment on all men. At that time He will
assign everyone to either Heaven or Hell for all eternity (1
Thessalonians 4:13-18; 2 Peter 3:8-13).
