AM I A FAILURE?
Recently I have been
led to pray with the people who are suffering from depression.
God has shown me by His Grace that hopelessness is the worst
condition I can think of. It is a hell on earth. It is a living
death. It is a meltdown of vitality, so to speak. A prolonged
bout of depression is, I should say, the worst nightmare
imaginable for both the people who suffer from it and the family
who watch their loved one go through it. Dear reader, if you have
ever joined the club, you know what I mean. I kept
asking God in tears why on earth He allowed this to happen to me.
God saves all kinds of
people. Some of us used to be addicted to chemical substances.
Some of us have been imprisoned. Some of us are suffering from
terminal cancer. Some of us are in constant pain. Some of us have
been abused. Some of us are suffering from mental diseases. Some
of our children are missing. Some of us have been divorced. Some
of us feel as if everything valuable in our lives had been lost.
Some of us have financial problems. Some of us used to be members
of different cults.
My God is the God who can save these seemingly hopeless people
and fill us with divine hope. Take me, for example. I have
suffered from bouts of depression and I sometimes fail to
function as an effective member of society because of
this. Sometimes, I become virtually blind because of light
sensitivity. Some people may consider me to be a failure. In
fact, I had been thinking of myself as a failure, before I came
to know Jesus better.
How have I come to know Jesus better?
I read the Bible. I keep reading it, even though there are many phrases and sentences I do not understand. The Bible tells me that God loves me, no matter what.
I also pray to God. Then He helps me understand what I should do to let Him solve my problems. I may not hear His answers immediately, but He does reveal His answers to me when He thinks it is best.
Sometimes, my friends show me what our God is really like, by the kindnesses they do to me.
As for me, I no longer have to carry my burdens all by myself. Jesus is carrying them for me. Or rather, Jesus is carrying ME.
Dear Friend,
Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Savior? Jesus
says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from
me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest
for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
Dear Friend, let me assure you. I am proud to have been yoked to
Jesus, who is gentle and humble and loving. His yoke is easy and
his burden is light, because Jesus keeps urging me to let Him
carry my burdens all the time.
